Elodie rang our local office to find out if she could have any help with her brother’s funeral.
Elodie was extremely upset on the phone as she didn’t think she could afford to pay for a funeral as she was struggling to make ends meet.
Elodie explained that even though both she and her husband work, due to the cost of living crisis and her nephew now moving in with her, since his Dad’s death, they had no spare money to set aside for a funeral.
Our adviser conducted a benefit check for the client and discovered there was an entitlement to Universal Credit, Guardian’s Allowance (as her nephew’s mother is a missing person and has been for an extended time) and Child Benefit for the nephew.
Due to the entitlement to Universal Credit this would entitle Elodie to a funeral expenses payment to help with the costs of her brother’s funeral.
Elodie explained that she felt she had nowhere to turn prior to this call and was completely distraught at not being able to afford her brother’s funeral. She is now really happy she rang and is overwhelmed with the support she has received. Elodie was able to apply for the benefits independently and thanked our adviser and our service.
